Background

The world's largest asset manager, BlackRock helps people invest wisely in their futures. Offering investment solutions for every need in a complex, technology-driven world, the New York City-based risk management and fixed income asset manager has 70 offices in 30 countries and clients in 100 countries. During the 2017 fiscal year, BlackRock reported earnings of $4.970 billion, with an annual revenue of $12.491 billion, an increase of 12 percent over the prior fiscal year. BlackRock's shares traded at over $414 per share, and its market capitalization was valued at over $61.7 billion in October 2018.

Challenge 

In this era, everyone — regardless of industry — is, to a degree, a technology organization. Further, at a time when the financial industry as a whole is undergoing a digital transformation and it’s a tight market for optimal candidates, BlackRock had to position itself as a technology firm. To do so, the organization required an integrated tech stack from a true partner, enabling it to consolidate vendors and determine what’s driving ROI. Additionally, in support of its product, Alladin, and the future of the organization as a whole, BlackRock needed to hire specialized tech talent, recruiting globally, including in Budapest and India.

Solution  

We implemented a real-time, API-driven integration into BlackRock’s existing ATS (Workday), so it now seamlessly pulls jobs and candidates into a single platform. With the candidate experience all occurring within the career website using Symphony Talent’s XCloud marketing technology, candidates encounter an Amazon-like consumer checkout experience, with consistency from engagement through application. Meanwhile, candidates can choose how and when they want to interact with BlackRock’s brand, and they get retargeted back into the cohesive experience should they drop off. The information that is collected is used for campaigns that effectively activate BlackRock’s EVP and drive recruitment needs. BlackRock expects to optimize its paid media spends on job boards, banners, adwords and social media for the right talent areas where a true talent pool gap exists, using seamless integration of programmatic media buying via the XCloud platform. Set to have personalization capabilities go live in March 2019, BlackRock is also preparing to meld creative and tech with the help of Symphony Talent.
